As dogs are classified under den animals, they appreciate the option of being in a closed and confined space. Housetraining becomes more hassle-free when you use the right crate that keeps your dog safe. Also, crates can greatly help during an emergency.

Let’s take a look at the types of crates.

The four types of crates
  • Soft-sided crates are for those puppies who like to be in small spaces. This type of crate is usually used for small-breed puppies.
  • Wooden crates can be used to match it with your décor and make it look chic. It is comfortable and will make your dog feel welcome.
  • Plastic crates are strong and durable and are for those families who frequently travel as plastic crates meet the requirements of airlines.
  • Wire crates get collapsed and can fit in easily anywhere when not in use. Breeds that live in a warm environment could be more comfortable in wire crates.
Which size will suit my dog?

As there are small-sized, medium-sized and large-sized breeds of dogs, you should choose those dimensions that are the most comfortable for your dog. Choose a size that your dog can grow in and wouldn’t feel constrained to go in. There should be enough space for the dog to stand in, stretch, move about and lie down.

As you choose a crate, analyze what you want to achieve from it. Will you be traveling a lot, or will you be at work? You may use a crate, but you may have to get a dog sitter to watch your dog if you are gone for more than a few hours. When you go to the beach or have to take a trip to the veterinarian, a crate becomes necessary. It is important that a crate is not too small.
